Stage 13 saw us continue on from Tours to Saint-Amand-Montrond in what Phil Deeker described as a recovery ride. This is one small part of the strange world that we have started terming the “tour bubble”. It’s only a matter of months since I rode my first ever 100 mile ride. At the time I was exhilarated but now it is commonplace to the extent that anything as short as 100 miles or so is thought of as an easy day. How things change.
As yesterday this was a largely a flat stage through more of France’s farming heartland. However where yesterday was largely a disappointing day of endless fields, today took us through slightly more varied terrain including a couple of forests and nice towns in addition to many more fields.
